What is an Australian Labradoodle?
An Australian Labradoodle is a multigenerational Labradoodle that originated in Australia. They were bred for therapy work and companionship. Even though they have “Australian” in their name, the do not have any Australian Shepherd in them. Way back in the early Lab/Poodle crosses, a few other breeds (Irish Water Spaniels, American and English Cocker Spaniels, Cockapoos, and Curly Coated Retrievers) were infused to improve size, coat, health, and temperament; and were bred together to create purebred Australian Labradoodles. So the easy answer is that they are multigenerational Labradoodles that originated in Australia.
How are your puppies raised?
We raise our puppies with the Puppy Culture program which starts when the puppies are 3 days old and continues until they leave for their new homes at 8 weeks old. They will be introduced to crate training, clicker training, beginnings of potty training, and noise and touch desensitization. The puppies will begin going outside to go potty when they start eating solid food. We do everything we can to ensure the puppies are well rounded. That saying, they won’t be perfect when you get them. Once the puppy is in your care, it is up to you to continue their training in order to have well socialized and well behaved dog.
How much does a puppy from Rutu cost?
Our puppies are $3,100 (total) on a strict spay/neuter agreement. Our reservation fee is a non-refundable $500 which will hold you a spot on a litter of your choice. Since we don’t know exactly how many puppies will be born every litter, we accept 5-6 reservations on each litter before they are born. Anyone else interested in that litter will be added to the waiting list. Spaces cannot be reserved until we have received a deposit. We require that the full payment is due by the time the puppies are 5 weeks of age.
Can I get a puppy even if I live in another state?
Yes, you can. We will not ship our puppies because we work hard to build their confidence and would hate to break that, but we offer several options to get your puppy safely to its new home. You can come to our home, we can meet you at our local airport in Grand Rapids, MI (GRR), or our “puppy nanny” can fly the puppy to you. There is a $50 fee if you would like us to meet you at our airport, and a $500 fee on top of travel expenses for us to fly the puppy out to you. So that there is as little stress on your puppy as possible, we will get them used to our soft-sided airline carrier before their flight home. We understand there may be many situations where you are unable to pick your puppy up on the go home date, so we will try to be as flexible as we can with helping you get your new family member. We are more than happy to keep your puppy up to 7 days after their go home date for $50 per day until you are able to get him/her.
How does your selection process work?
We match you with your puppy based first and foremost on the puppy’s temperament and your lifestyle. If you have size, gender, or color preferences, we will take those into consideration but cannot guarantee that they will line up with the puppy you are matched with. When your litter is born we ask that you love each puppy equally and don’t name drop your favorites, so that when we are matching them we have an open mind and can match them based purely on temperament. If there is a case where I don’t think any of the puppies on your litter are a good match for you, I can transfer your reservation fee (only once) to the next available litter. We put a lot of time into temperament testing and talking with you to learn about your lifestyle to ensure we match you with the best puppy for you.
What happens if you don’t have enough puppies for your reservation list?
We cannot control mother nature so unfortunately this does happen on occasion. If you are on a reservation list and we don’t have enough puppies in that litter, we would be more than happy to transfer your deposit to the next available litter or if you would prefer this would be the only instance we would refund your deposit.
